History
Provimi North America, Inc. is
owned by Provimi Holding BV – a worldwide animal nutrition company
located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Provimi owns 55 companies,
operates more than 100 manufacturing plants in 30 countries, and has
more than 600 scientists among its 8,000 dedicated employees.
Although the company was officially born in
2001, Provimi North America’s strength today has been built
from a strong tradition of quality, reputable brands in the
livestock industry.
An Overview of Provimi North America’s
History:
- Vigortone Ag Products, Inc. was founded in
1912 near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
- In 1963, Carl Akey founded Carl S. Akey,
Inc.
- Carl S. Akey, Inc., opened a manufacturing
plant near Lewisburg, Ohio, in January 1975
- Vigortone was acquired by Provimi in March
1998.
- Akey, Inc., joined the Provimi group in
July 2000.
- North American Nutrition Companies, Inc.,
was formed as an operational entity to support the Akey
and Vigortone organizations.
- In 2002, North American Nutrition acquired
Sunglo Feeds in Hesston, Kansas.
- Progressive Nutrition began operations in
July 2003.
- Provimi Canada, a start-up business to
serve regional feed manufacturers in Quebec, was formed in 2004.
- In June 2006, North American Nutrition
acquired Vita Distribution, a long-time leader in serving the
on-farm swine segment, located in St. Valerien, Quebec.
- Nutrition Horizons was formed in June 2006.
- January 1, 2010- Name change to Provimi North America, Inc.
Provimi North America, Inc. recognizes the
experience and history of our individual brands in the market place
and continues to promote and sell its products and services under
the following:

- Research and Development
- Customer Care
Provimi North America, Inc. acts as an “umbrella”
company, providing operational services in the areas of
manufacturing, transportation, finance, legal, purchasing, quality
assurance and administration for the brands. The corporate
headquarters are located in Brookville, Ohio.
